Relationship Stress During the Holidays…

December 26th, 2007 · No Comments

arguingI hope you all had a great holiday.. if you celebrate. If you don’t celebrate anything this time of year, why not create a personal holiday. Take a day or two off with the one you love and have some you and her/him time? :D

What I wanted to just talk about quickly today is keeping everyone happy during the holidays. They can be stressful can’t they? Even for Joe.. I had my trials this time around.

Note… I have a normal, regular ‘ol relationship. It’s fantastic! We’re madly in love with each other, but.. we also get in each others hair and have an argument periodically. But it’s not abnormal or even a bad thing to let your emotions out. As long as it stays under control and you know when to back off…

My wife and I were to have family at our house this year; the first time ever! And if it could go wrong it did.. well, it REALLY did because the weather was horrible and family…

… Never Arrived! They are all ok, but we had to cancel our plans and reschedule.

Can you imagine the state my wife could have been in! All that planning and work.. 8O

And I stepped on her last nerve on Christmas day.. and she uninvited herself to my families function.. and I uninvited myself to her families and…

.. I paused, walked away.. took a shower.. thought about it a bit. Collected myself…

An hour later we had apologized. And we went on with plans as normal.

During that shower as I collected myself, I thought… OK, Joe, think about the repercussions if you take this any further. This is no small deal.. if you move forward and don’t go to her parents and vice versa, it will cause some longer term damage here…

..over what? And that was what really sealed it. It really wasn’t over anything that major.

I told myself to suck it up.. just be nice as nice can be and it will all be ok.

And you know what? It was.

If you get in arguments over the holidays.. cause they can happen. There can be a lot of stress and work during this time. Getting the house ready for family, hunting down trees, decorating them, shopping, wrapping… going to and fro…

So many things something is bound to go haywire. Some years (like this year for us) everything does.

But don’t let it cause long term damage. Help out as much as you can (especially you guys out there… ;) ) and get through it. It will be far easier in the long run and..

..this too will pass.

And guys, if it gets really bad… a trip to the store for some flowers and chocolates might not be a bad thing.. women.. well you know your man. Take his mind off the situation for a bit.. ;)

Happy Holidays!
