Get a Grip Girl! Open Your Own Door!

January 27th, 2008 · No Comments

This is the first of what will be many, many stories I’ll share with you about my own personal past experiences.. before and after the day I met my wonderful wife of 6 years. :D

This stems back a bunch of years (pre-wife.. dating scene), but it’s one of those experiences that just sticks in my head.

Now I understand that there are many different types of women.. many shades and variations. Coming from different backgrounds, being brought up in different ways. There are many influences.

And sometimes us guys don’t find this out right away. Normally when we see a really, really cute girl, we just dive right in right!? I did… 95 pounds wet.. red head with a nice frame. I was all over it!

Now there are many things I’d like to tell you about this girl, but I’m just going to focus on one little thing in this post… door opening.

I think I was always used to independent women.. but this girl was totally helpless.

Yes.. I open doors and all that. Always have! Although I do get confused sometimes when you walk into places and there are more then one door you are going through. So do I open door #1? or door #2?.. If I open door #1.. then all the people inside will think I’m not very gentlemen like.. but then if I open door #2, what about all those outside?

….I wonder what she wants me to do? Does it matter? Should I hurt myself and open both somehow?

I digress..

At any rate, I remember we had just got done eating at this nice restaurant.. out on a date.

I get in the vehicle and I’m ready to turn it on when I realized…. She was still outside! Standing by the passenger door! She didn’t say a word. She just stood there!!

It took me about 3 seconds to realize she wasn’t coming in and she was waiting for me to let her in.. I had to get out of my truck, walk around it and open the door for her.

That was the beginning of the end I’m pretty sure…

I have always tried my hardest to be a gentlemen, but.. there is a serious personality flaw in the case I describe above. Am I right.. or am I wrong?
